Ngawang is originally from Chaurikharka in the Solokhumbu region of Nepal. The village lies just beneath the airport at Lukla, the gateway for climbers and trekkers who wish to explore the Everest region. Ngawang started as a porter in 2008 in the mountains around his home and quickly moved up to guiding by 2009. He has guided extensively in the Everest region including Everest Base Camp, Three Passes, and Gokyo treks. Ngawang is also an extreme sport enthusiast and has twice completed the Everest Marathon, which starts at Everest Base Camp and ends at Namache Bazaar.
