via Chukhung Ri Climb side trek (2 days)

The climb to the 5550 m (18,209 ft) summit of Chukhung Ri is a tough lung busting struggle, but the reward is a panoramic view of Makalu, Island Peak, Ama Dablam, and the glacial lake of Imja Tsho. This should only be attempted if you feel well acclimatized at Chukhung.

May is the end of the ‘Spring Season’ when temperatures are more moderate and the pre-monsoon moisture increases the chance of precipitation as the month progresses. It can be hot and humid in the valleys at low elevations, so make sure you carry enough water. Like the rest of the spring, clear mornings typically give way to cloudy afternoons. At high altitudes, the precipitation can turn to snow, although at trekking elevations the accumulation does not usually get too deep. May is also the season when many 8000 m peaks are climbed so base camps of these mountains will be busy with activity.

Chukhung (4730 m) While technically it is possible to go to both Chukhung Ri and Imja Tsho in a day with one in the morning and the other in the afternoon it is highly recommended if you wish to go to both to add an extra night between the two day hikes in Chukhung, or to choose to go to one or the other.
