At 14 years old, Mingma began carrying loads up the mountains of the Khumbu where he grew up. With 20 years of experience as a porter and now a licensed trekking guide for the last 12 years, Mingma knows the mountains well. He has led trekking peak climbs of Mera and Island Peak, and treks in Khumbu (Everest Region), Langtang, Annapurna, and upper Mustang. In addition to his extensive Himalayan experience, Mingma has climbed in the Alps. From 2009-2012 he lived in Austria and Germany, and he returned to Europe in 2016, traveling through Switzerland. Trekking and travel are twin passions for Mingma. He enjoys both nature and meeting new people.

Mingma was an excellent guide! As a group of 2 on our first trip to Nepal, we felt very lucky to have experienced the Langtang Valley trek with him. Mingma was very professional, extremely polite and patient, offered a lot of knowledge and information, and kept a great sense of humor throughout the trip. Communication before the trip was easily made, and all questions or requests were addressed very promptly. Mingma arranged for a private jeep at our request, which is highly recommended over the bus ride for the long bumpy drive to Syabrubesi. He also assisted in arranging a porter, Gopa, for our trip, who was also very skilled, kind and helpful. Both Mingma and Gopa remained attentive to our needs, tailored our trail days to our skill level, and gave support and advice about altitude acclimatization. We saw a number of other guides and porters who fell behind or went on ahead of their clients, but we enjoyed that Mingma and Gopa remained close to us on the trail to tell jokes, point out wildlife, and explain the cultural significance of various mani walls or stupas. Mingma arranged all of our lodging and stops for tea and food along the trek and he helped teach us a few essential Nepali phrases we could use to share our appreciation with lodge owners. Mingma kept us laughing and in good spirits during our whole trip and we felt that having him as our guide and Gopa as our porter enriched our experience in the villages of the Langtang Valley.

My partner and I only had time for a 6-day trek so we chose Mingma as our guide for the Tamang Heritage Trail and Pasang joined as our porter. Mingma was very professional and we always felt we were in good hands during our trip! Mingma was patient, knowledgeable, trustworthy, positive, and overall a fun travel companion. My partner got sick on the first day of the trek and Mingma made sure he had what he needed and adjusted the pace of our treking for the first day. Highly recommend!
