Thanks Robert and Andrea for the response. I like the itinerary. If I may suggest a hike to Gokyo Ri on day 12 early morning, after that head back to Gokyo, before trekking onwards to Lungden via Renjo La Pass. I have questions 1) I suppose everyone arrives KTM a few days before Nov 3. Will there be a pre-Nov 3 meet up (with participating trekkers and guide) in Kathmandu? 2) flights to Lukla: I heard we have to fly from Ramecchap to Lukla as there is no direct flight from KTM. Have you already purchased the air tickets? If so, which date/time and airlines? 3) Will you be hiring a porter or carrying your own backpack? I am fine either way 4) are crampons or microspkes necessary for the passes especially Cho La?

Hi Kimmy, Andrea and I have been communicating through email as to meeting up, plans, and dates. We do plan on meeting up the day before the flight. the flight should be from KTM since the construction would be over way before November. We both have purchased the tickets through sherpana just so all the tickets are purchased at the same time so we can stay together. Andrea has a porter which she is willing to split since I'm going to try and carry my own gear. In terms of crampons, I'm waiting until October to ping people on the conditions, but we should be able to rent them in Thamel. I did ping sherpana this morning on Goyko Ri. shouldn't be an issue, But I think Andrea and I will be up for it.

Hi Kimmy and Robert I'm up for it too. It all sounds great. Kimmy, my email is andreabaxkal@hotmail.com if you'd like to email me privately. I'm coming from the UK. You? I will be hiring (haven't done it yet) a porter which you are able to share (they carry gear for two people) if you like and it makes it cheaper for us both, and as Robert said I have paid for my flight out of Kathmandu to Lukla and will do the same on the way back. Both Robert and I will be arriving on Friday afternoon which is better than Saturday afternoon which was my option but that would have been too late. I wanted to have a couple of good nights rest before starting the trekking. Robert also said we'd be meeting up on Saturday with the guide and to do some last minute shopping. Andrea

Wow it looks like you guys are pretty much set and ready for the trek. I am arranging to fly into KTM on Oct 31 (Thursday), ETA 2100. I am coming from Brunei. There shouldn't be jetlagged for me as the time difference between here and Nepal is 2.5 hours. Yes Andrea, I will use the porter service and share the cost with you. As for the KTM-Lukla flight, I will come back to you as soon as possible.

Hi Kimmy, Great news for me about the porter as now the cost is shared. While I would like to do as Robert and carry my own gear I want to give myself the best chance at getting up to high altitude so I decided a porter was a must. Be prepared to take a couple of hours getting into the country as getting visas can be a little difficult to sort out on entry. You probably won't get to your hotel until late though as you are arriving in the evening there might not be so many people all trying to get visas at the same time. For me the time difference isn't a big problem but the fact that I am flying through the night and won't be able to sleep comfortably in a bed will be. Robert may have the worst problem as he is taking three flights to get there.

So in terms of the Gokyo Ri hike, they said the view is the same as Renjo La. Most people pass on Gokyo Ri if they're going through Renjo La. But it is doable when we arrive at Dragnag. But it's too much to do Ngozumpa Tse and Gokyo Ri in the same day since it'll be a long day.

Hi Anca, I have no issues with you joining. We're all solo travelers. Once you confirm I can add you to our thread. Just an FYI, our flights will not be from Kathmandu airport due to construction, but from Ramchap which requires an early morning (2:30am) leave from Kathmandu. It's best to book as early as possible so we can try to be on the same flight.

Hi Anca, The more the merrier. It would be good if you could join us three solo travellers and experience the trip of a lifetime (for me at least). Andrea

This is the most popular and iconic trek in the Khumbu. Follow the footsteps of Tenzing Norgay, Edmund Hillary, and those that followed to the base of the highest mountain in the world. En route, you’ll pass the centuries old Buddhist monastery of Tengboche and hike alongside the Khumbu glacier to Gorak Shep, the last permanent encampment before Everest Basecamp. In addition to Everest Basecamp, you will climb to the dizzying height of 5643 m (18,513 ft) and view one of the most magnificent panoramas in the Himalayas atop Kala Patthar. Those with a little more time and a sense of adventure can add side trips via the spectacular Kongma La pass, the Cho La pass, and the Renjo La Pass.

Side trip via Renjo La: The path via the Renjo La (5340 m) provides a more strenuous route from Gokyo back to Namche Bazaar via the barren and beautiful Bhote Valley, and the Sherpa Village of Thame. Ascending from Gokyo to the Renjo La provides jaw dropping views of Mt. Everest with Gokyo Lake below.

Side trip Fifth Lake & Ngozumpa Tse: Gokyo valley’s 5th Lake and the rocky outcropping between the 5th and 6th lakes known as Ngozumpa Tse is a great day hike option for those who want to spend an extra day in Gokyo. The challenging hike leads up into the remote and desolate upper Gokyo Valley. The view from Ngozumpa Tse is jaw-dropping.

Side trip via Cho La: The most popular of the three passes in the Khumbu region, the trail via Cho La (5420 m) provides stunning vistas along the high route between Everest Basecamp and the Gokyo Valley. With its series of lakes, the Gokyo Valley is probably one of the most beautiful valleys in the Khumbu Region, while the view from Gokyo Re rivals any of the trekking viewpoints in the Khumbu, including a more complete – if a bit further away – view of Mt Everest.
